Becoming NatureWise

The word "Scout" means "One who knows how to listen"

Learn nature skills, and how to see through indigenous eyes.

In these forages into the wild, we recognize we can't learn the plants without learning something of the animals signs we encounter... without learning the language of birds that are informing us of what's happening all around us.

This journey awakens you to the languages of nature so you become woven into the hidden relationships of place.

Becoming NatureWise is remembering how to be of our greater wild belonging.

You learn the plants, the animals, the ecologies, the stories of these lands, rivers, and mountains. You become of Place.

You learn to tune your senses to how the ancestors listened into the emanations of the Earth itself... how to be in relationship with a greater eco-system of life.

What You'll Learn

Learn plant identification

Plants & Trees

Learn to recognize the trees and plants from the wall of green. Know their names, their medicine and greater contributions to place. We’ll have guest Native Elders share how to see and engage through Native eyes.

Learn Tracing & Animal Sign

Reading The Signs

Learn to see animals signs

  • Learn what to look for, how to read the signs, and be informed by nature right in front of you.

  • Learn what questions to ask that invite you further into the stories, activities and deeper meanings that are being expressed all around you.

  • Inner & Outer Tracking provides you a map into the deeper layers and knowledge available that’s missed by others

Learn Bird Language

Bird Language

Learn to hear… what the different calls of birds mean and indicate is occurring around you.  Through bird behavior and types of vocalizations you become informed of the activities occurring around you in nature, if there’s a predator nearby and where, of what’s about to happen in the weather and so on.

Heighten Your Senses. Know what to listen and look for.

Sensory Skills

You'll learn how to engage and heighten your senses... to know what to sense... and how to be aware of the subtle happenings and communications all around you.

Restore Ancestral and Indigenous perspectives

Ancestral Perspectives

Experience how to be in relationship with the land, animals and eco-systems. It's learning how to apprentice ourselves to the land, to not steward the land but allow the land steward us.

Restoring village Culture

Cultural Restoration

Experience the culture of gathering and honoring together.  Experience Way of Council, Elders, and peer to peer mentoring. Gather around the fire, storytelling, and cultural ways of greeting the day.

Make the shift from being a visitor or tourist in nature to being in relationship with place.

The Flow

This is a fun interactive hands on learning experience. We invite in Native Elders and others steeped in experiential knowledge.

One Saturday month we venture into diverse landscapes where we learn FROM the land, plants and animals of place. We learn HOW to see and listen and WHAT to look and listen for.

We play nature games that helps us enter the “mind” of the animals and forest and offers you a felt experience of being part of an environment.

Where other Nature Schools are focused on learning “information” ABOUT the plants, we restore an Old World Way of learning FROM them and having a felt experience so what you learn becomes your own.

Coyote Mentoring

Learning How To Learn

Experience the old ways of learning known as Coyote Mentoring.

Coyote is the trickster, the storyteller, the master of games and guiding us to our own discovery through direct experience and inspiring curiosity.

These forages into nature are not about learning information, facts, or memorization.

Here you're learning how to apprentice yourself to nature and enter the mind of the tracker, the naturalist, the scout.

You're learning how to ask the right questions, how to listen, and cultivate your own relationship with nature.
